What was once a downtown public safety hazard is now beautifully restored and home to Willow Springs’ newest business. United Country – The Ozarks hosted a grand opening on March 3. Their presence in the historic McClellan Building is the final chapter in a years-long story of public outcry, restoration, and renewal.
Who doesn’t love a happy ending?
The now-full McClellan building is the new home of United Country -The Ozarks, a real estate office. They are the number one United County office in Missouri and Arkansas and number four in the nation, according to their marketing materials. Willow Springs native realtor Wendy Willard is joined by Dylan Leroy in the office located at 104. E Main Street. Restoration efforts at the McClellan Building began in November 2023, and in August 2025 the Willow Springs Community Foundation (WSCF) began accepting rental applications for the newly renovated apartments. Today, all the rental units have tenants, and United County is committed to a three-year lease in downtown Willow Springs, said Community Foundation Director Dean Aye.
The Foundation took ownership of the McClellan Building in March 2023, while it was still declared, “a dangerous building” by the city, as previously reported by Howell County News. The building had no roof, and its north wall had failed. Repairs initially focused on resolving these public safety concerns, and the official “danger” declaration was removed in February 2024.
After $1.1 million spent on restoration, and renovation, the McClellan Building is a must-see feature of downtown Willow Springs. United County hosted a well-attended open house with snacks and giveaways last week in the pristine, recently renovated interior.
