West Plains Pedestrian Struck by City of West Plains Employee

A man has been treated and released from medical care after being struck by a West Plains Fire Department firefighter’s personal vehicle on Saturday morning, August 14. According to a statement from the City of West Plains, first responders were on the scene in the 1300 block of Lanton Rd. Saturday morning to respond to a report of an unresponsive man in a roadway. This man was found to be breathing, but heavily intoxicated. He was checked and arrangements were made to take him to his residence.
As a West Plains Fire responder was leaving the area in his personal vehicle through a nearby parking lot, “a second individual that was lying down in a drive was struck,” reads the statement.
Neither the City of West Plains nor the West Plains Police Department responded to a request for clarification of this fact before press time. No information has been released regarding how or why the second man was lying on the ground.
The injured man was transported to Ozark Healthcare where he was treated and later released.
The incident is being investigated by the West Plains Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.
