West Plains Public Library Kicks off Summer Reading Program June 1 

A full slate of activities is planned for all ages at the West Plains Public Library during its Summer Reading Program, which returns Tuesday, June 1. "We are so excited to be able to offer this program again to our community," said Director of Library Services Shawnie Kennedy. "We have a lot of really unique events planned, and we believe there will be something for everybody." 
The Program officially begins with a "kick off carnival" on Tuesday, June 1, and will run through the end of July.  
Here is a rundown of events and activities for this summer: 
Ages 3-12 
Tuesday, June 1 - Kick-off Carnival; 
Tuesdays – Storytime and crafts; 
Thursdays – Presenters and activities; 
Thursday, July 29 - End of Summer Reading Program party and prizes. 
Ages 13-18 
Fridays – Teen Program Days. Teens can earn book bucks for reading milestones and program participation. 
Friday, July 30 – End of Summer Reading Program party and prizes.  
Boys and Girls Club 
Wednesdays – Summer Reading Program for Club members. 
Wednesday, July 28 – End of Summer Reading Program prizes. 
Adults 
Every other Wednesday – Adult Summer Reading Program with prizes for events and reading milestones.
According to the American Library Association, those who participate in summer reading programs are more likely to develop life-long reading habits, helps children to keep their reading skills up, and generates interest in the library and books.
