West Plains Woman Assaulted

A West Plains man, Alexander Dean Harris, was arrested and charged with second degree assault in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 19, at a West Plains park. The victim, who was unknown to the accused, told West Plains police officer Corporal Shannon Sisney, that she was sitting at a bathroom when Harris allegedly attacked and began choking and striking her with his closed fist. She was able to get away from her attacker and ran, but he tackled her. He again started choking her to a point where she was unable to breathe. The suspect again began striking her and told her he was going to kill her. She stated he had an object in his hand she believed was a knife and at one point placed it to her throat. The victim was again able to break free and ran, ultimately escaping her attacker.
Upon contacting Officer Sisney, the victim was taken back to the park to collect her belongings left at the scene when she fled. An Apple iPhone was located at the scene that did not belong to the victim. Officer Sisney used the phone to call 911, and the number associated with the phone was identified. Officer Sisney went to an address on Renfrow Street identified with the phone. There he located Harris, who admitted that the telephone was his after being read his Miranda Rights. Harris, a black male, fit the description of the alleged attacker. Additional evidence collected at the arrest scene indicated Harris, who was also intoxicated, was the potential attacker. He was arrested and placed in jail, charged with the assault on a woman he did not know in a public place where there is a playground.
