WILLOW SPRINGS TUESDAY STUDY CLUB

APRIL 6, 2021 MEETING
The ladies of the Tuesday Study Club met April 6, 2021 at the beautiful home of Peggy Miller. After taking care of club business, Claudia Marvin gave her program.
Jim Shore was raised on rural property in South Carolina by his artistic parents. His mother was a sculptor and painter, while his father was a skilled woodworker. When Jim was a boy, he developed his artistic license very quickly and was soon helping his parents to stain glass, carve wood and paint portraits. His grandmother was a remarkable master quilter. She taught him patience and skill to bring intricate designs to life. A style which he incorporates into his work. Growing up Jim pursued his own art whenever he could. He earned a business degree in engineering. He supported his own family by working in a position that utilized his college education and continued to paint and sculpt in his spare time.
After suffering several false starts and some unexpected financial setbacks, Jim decided it was time to pursue his real passion. He established his own art business where he created and marketed his own designs and traveled the country to sell his work. Within three years, the company had over three hundred employees and was struggling to fulfill the amount of orders that were coming in. The growing amount of work became overwhelming and he sought out a business partner that would take charge of the business. This would allow him to once again focus on the creative aspect of the work. In 2001 he partnered with Enesco to create Heartwood Creek, a line of folk-art inspired pieces. It was this collection that brought Jim world-wide fame. It has produced over one billion dollars in sales. He received multiple awards from prestigious trade organizations including ICON HONORS Life Accomplishment Award in 2014.
Jim's work is based on tradition, family, and love of country. His style combines color, images of American and European folk-art forms, including quilting, rosemaling, and tole painting. He works with a variety of themes and formats including successful partnerships with Walt Disney, Peanuts, Grinch and most recently Country Living.
During his nineteen-year partnership with Enesco, the Jim Shore collection has grown from a small group of Santas, snowmen, and angels to a broad year-round brand respected and sold around the world. From statues to mini figurines, Santa Claus to Mickey Mouse Jim has something for everyone. Over the years he has been able to expand his work and now also designs decorative accents for the house, garden, jewelry, and fashion accessories.
Jim holds the number one artist spot for television sales on a major American cable, satellite and broadcast television network, and has won multiple accolades for his work including awards for best Christmas collectibles and lifetime achievement. It is a tribute to Jim's boundless creativity and unique ability to touch people in all walks of life through his art.
Jim Shore is a very gifted man, and Claudia showed those gifts in some of his pieces from Doris Dunnihoo’s collection of his work.
