Lincoln School celebrates Black History Month with event series

Lincoln School announced a series of events in honor of Black History Month, aimed at celebrating the rich history and contributions of African Americans. The school invites the community to participate in these insightful presentations and discussions throughout February. All events will take place at the Lincoln School, located at 1400 Pony Thomas St. in West Plains, Mo.
The first event will be an engagement with Dr. Geoff Ward, an esteemed author and professor of African and African American studies at Washington University. The event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Dr. Geoff Ward will discuss his book, The Black Child Savers: Racial Democracy and Juvenile Justice, focusing on the historical efforts of Black women in the National Association of Colored Women (NACW) to protect African American youth.
The second event will be a presentation on George Washington Carver on Thursday, Feb. 13 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Join Dr. Edward Williamson, professor, Drury University, as he highlights the life and legacy of George Washington Carver, emphasizing his significant impact on agriculture and education.
The third event will be a Justice for Celia Coalition presentation on Monday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Learn about the legacy of Celia Newsom from her descendants and local historians, linking local history to national themes. Hear firsthand from the coalition their reactions after receiving the news about the recent pardon by Governor Mike Parsons days before leaving office.
