Bear Book News

A spring book sale is going on now through the end of March. We're featuring books on gardening, health, and the outdoors, but we have books of all kinds. Fill a bag for only $5.
And speaking of the outdoors, if you're interested in fly-fishing, on March 10 at 10am, the library is hosting a Fly-tying class by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Recommended for teens and adults. Supplies are provided but spots are limited. Call the library or visit mdc.mo.gov/events to register.
Also this spring - the Willow Springs Library is going "Full STEAM Ahead" with grant funding for STEM and STEAM kits from the Willow Springs Rotary Club and The Institute of Museum and Library Services. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. When you add an A for the Arts, you get STEAM.
We are excited to be awarded these grant funds and have already begun purchasing and processing the kits for checkout. They will be available to patrons in late April. Some of the kits for children and teens include metal detectors, magnets, electrical circuits, robotics, microscopes, and building systems that incorporate physics. There will also be early literacy kits that teach reading and phonics. Families will be able to check out kits so children can explore new disciplines in a fun way. Maybe they'll have a knack for coding or inventing or solar energy.
Also coming in April, the library is offering a month of amnesty for fines. Return your overdue materials - no matter how long you've had them - and we will waive the fines.
We miss our book-friends and long to see them again. Please bring them home.
