Dear Editor,

This year, the Missouri state legislature has decided that the primary in which we choose the candidate for president in each party will be run by the respective parties. I am writing now to clear up any confusion as to how to cast a vote in the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary.

The Democratic Party will hold statewide primaries on one day, March 23rd, 2024.

In Howell County, the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary Election will be held at the West Plains Civic Center from 8:00 a.m. until noon in the Redbud Room. Any registered voter from Howell County who is not registered as a Republican may vote in this election.

Mail-in ballots may be requested from the Missouri Democratic Party until March 12th, and must be returned by March 23rd. There is more information about this on the MDP website, www.missouridemocrats.org.

This year voters may choose to include a party affiliation in their voter registration. This may be done at the Secretary of State's website, www.sos.mo.gov , or at the Howell County Clerk's office at 35 Court Square, Room 200 in West Plains. Although it is not necessary to be registered as a Democrat to vote in the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary on March 23rd, it will be required of anyone wishing to be a delegate to the district, state or national conventions which follow.

We encourage all Democrats to participate in this first step in choosing our candidate for President.

Thank you,
Terry Moore
