Dear Editor:

I would like to take a moment to thank all of the people who regularly read my weekly articles. I enjoy hearing from so many of my readers who make the effort to call and leave encouraging messages.  I have heard from grandmothers who worry about their grandkids, parents who worry about their children, preachers who worry about their congregations, individuals from military backgrounds who worry about the condition of our country and the future of our democracy.  Yes, I hear you, and your words touch my heart.
Granted, I often convey a message that is not politically correct; however, my goal is to speak the truth as God gives me the ability to know the truth rather than pander to the public or try to make friends. Regardless of my tough stance, many of you have expressed appreciation for what I write... in spite of myself, and I genuinely thank you for your patronage.
More than anyone else, I truly understand that we individually have spiritual and political beliefs that cannot be compromised, even though they vary from what someone else might think. And rightly so, as the old axiom says, "A person who stands for nothing, falls for anything." However, whether Protestant or Catholic, Baptist or Pentecostal, Republican or Democrat, Black or White... or any shade in between, I want to loudly declare to all my faithful readers (whether you agree with me or not), "Thank you for being fellow citizens of this, our blessed America!"
We absolutely cannot allow worthless, disingenuous politicians to drive a wedge and divide us from each other because there is rarely a politician born who is not divisive in their agenda... simply due to the need for job security! Do you require proof? Consider if you will the words of our country's Founding Father, George Washington, when he warned us about the subtle danger of politicians operating in various political parties, "However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion." FAREWELL ADDRESS | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1796.
Put very simply, Washington warned that politicians from opposing parties might be helpful in the short term but utterly deadly over a long period of time.
So, what is the remedy or the safeguard to insure the wellbeing and longevity of our beloved nation? Much like Benjamin Franklin said many years ago concerning the malignant threat of British oppression... WE, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE must all hang together in the face of divisive politics, or else we will each hang separately! Today, more than ever before, we must find a way to corporately identify common ground without sacrificing each individual's most treasured values. Yes, the job is daunting, but absolutely imperative if we intend to pass the legacy of Liberty to our posterity for generations to come.
Thank you ALL for being Americans!
