There is a new updated look to your 2023 Tax Statements being mailed out on Friday, November 3, 2023. Please note these helpful changes:
#1. Tax Districts have complete descriptions to better clarify where your tax dollars are distributed.
For example: State, County General Fund, Health Department, School District, Ambulance District, Library, etc
#2 Five easy pay methods can be found on the top right of your statement:
- The secure drop box on the east side of the Collector’s office may be used at anytime up until midnight December 31, 2023.
- Phone - Please use the 800 number on the statement and follow the directions. There are numbers provided specific to you to complete the transaction. Our office does not process credit or debit card transactions over the phone. We will mail you a receipt.
- Pay online at www.howellcountycollector.com. You will be able to go back into the online search option to save or print your receipt. Accounts paid online will not receive a receipt by mail.
- USPS -When mailing your payment in, please send checks only. We will mail a receipt back to you. Make sure they are postmarked no later than December 31, 2023.
- In-person payment methods are check, cash, debit card, or credit card.
Office Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm except on county closure dates of: Veterans Day - November 10, Thanksgiving - November 23rd & 24, Christmas - December 25.
Please note the applicable fees for credit and debit cards are kept by the processing company:
Credit card fees of 2.45% (minimum of $1.55)
VISA Debit Card Fees $4.00
HELPFUL HINTS to expedite the transaction process:
Please bring your statements with you!
If your personal property statement is not correct, please see the assessor’s office first.
If you purchased or sold real estate this year and are unclear who is to pay the taxes, please consult your title company or your closing documents.
Finally, in reference to the senior tax credit, SB190, the Commission is working on a process and a plan to implement the new law. The information will be coming soon, but it does not apply to the 2023 tax season.
We hope the changes we have made are beneficial to the citizens of Howell County.
We appreciate your patience and kindness during tax season!
Janet Crow,
Howell County Collector
