Moment in the Word

Isaiah 28:16-17 Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will lay a stone in the foundations of Zion, a tried stone, a corner stone, a precious stone, founded in the foundation. He that believeth, let him not hasten. 17 And I will set judgment in weight, and justice in measure: and hail shall overturn the hope of falsehood: and waters shall overflow its protection. (Douay-Rheims Bible)
If some function of society is broken, then the policy was probably constructed on a distortion, a false paradigm, or an outright lie. To offset this prevailing flaw, individuals must personally dedicate the best part of their existence to God prior to the coming storm, and as Isaiah 28:17 alludes, a storm is coming due to the lies upon which our current government is based. While many live in denial, you and I can both feel the flood surge sweeping our way. For that very reason, King Solomon said that everyone should dedicate themselves to the Almighty while there is still time before the advent of evil when people look back and wonder what good was life to them (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Trust me, dark days are ahead, but are we ready?
Jesus told a story about an individual who carelessly lived without making any enduring commitment to God and was totally unprepared when the tempest unexpectedly raged. Sadly, the foolish fellow faced ultimate ruin alone, "And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand, 27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof." (Matthew 7:26-27, DRB)
In contrast during difficult times, St. Paul professed to his friend Timothy, "For which cause I also suffer these things: but I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed, and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day. " (2 Timothy 1:12, DRB)
In only a matter of a few months, we have witnessed a cataclysmic downturn in American society. After enduring several years of malicious rioting, looting, and burning under the hypocritical guise of social justice, we now face the beginning of runaway inflation, shortages, continued lawlessness, and gridlock due to an erroneous philosophy lauded by an anarchist mob. Tragically, our cowardly politicians, greedy corporations, and naive populace have chosen to take the path of least resistance by paying lip service to a rabble that "sow wind and reap a whirlwind." According to the prophet Hosea, this false planting of lies will grow neither stalk nor bud for a necessary harvest, and if by accident any yield is produced then foreigners will eat it in our midst (Hosea 8:7). While the entire nation suffers, this is what a slim majority wanted, and this is precisely what God is going to give us all... a storm worth remembering.
Nevertheless, when adversity comes, what recourse will the righteous have? Consider the word that God spoke to Abraham as the man patiently hoped for a better promise, "Now when these things were done, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: Fear not, Abram, I am thy protector, and thy reward exceeding great. " (Genesis 15:1, DRB)
The Almighty is sending a tempest of hail and flood to obliterate and drown a man-made construction of lies, however, when the storm arrives, those who trust in the "tried stone, the corner stone, the precious stone" of God's foundation will not have to "hasten" or flee based on St. Paul's assurance that "...the sure foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal: the Lord knoweth who are his; and let everyone depart from iniquity who nameth the name of the Lord." (2 Timothy 2:19, DRB) Be of good cheer for this too shall pass when God's purpose is finished.
