Moment in the Word

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice." Proverbs 31:8-9, New Living Translation
From the first century's Masoretic Text, we read these words, "Speak up for the mute, the innocent who are marked for death... the poor and helpless that are denied justice (Proverbs 31:8-9)!"
In the same edition of the Holy Bible, Ancient Israel was condemned by God, "You slaughtered my children and gave them up when you passed them through the fire..." Ezekiel 16:21
In this week's article, I advocate for a voiceless youth and speak regarding a horrific crime that befell her.
Less than a hundred miles from where I now sit and write, a child was recently sedated unconscious by a malevolent parent and laid alive on a raging pyre to burn. Roused from her stupor by the excruciating pain, the little girl desperately tried to escape but was trapped in the searing flames by a rake in her mother's hands, all for the interest of a conspiring boyfriend.
Although local law enforcement, rural firefighters, first responders, and investigators did everything in their power, yet the horrible abuse could not be undone. The unspeakable tragedy would be left to the legal system for some tattered vestige of justice. Surely a jury of peers would come to the defense of the murdered child and finally rule in her favor! But due to the wicked chicanery of the modern judicial system, the decision was left in the hands of one unscrupulous judge who ignored the helpless victim's cries from the mound of ashes that cradled her abandoned bones.
While being carelessly flaunted here, Heaven's angels now bear the little girl's ignored plight to a Higher Court where justice will be done and a verdict handed down for all eternity to come.
Now, hear the word of the Almighty!
In Psalms 82, God calls all the judges into His courtroom and puts THEM in the dock (vs 1).
In the Bible version called "The Message," we read... "Enough! You've corrupted justice long enough; you've let the wicked get away with murder. You're here to defend the defenseless, to make sure that the helpless get a fair break; Your job is to stand up for the powerless, and prosecute all those who exploit them (vs. 2-4).
"Ignorant judges! Head-in-the-sand judges! They haven't a clue to what's going on. And now everything's falling apart, the world's coming unglued (vs 5).
"'I appointed you judges, each one of you, deputies of the High God, but you've betrayed your commission and now you're stripped of your rank, busted (vs 6-7).'"
In the very last verse of Asaph's Psalms 82, the writer pleads, "O God, give them what they've got coming! You've got the whole world in your hands (vs 8)!"
In a nation where the people have totally forgotten how to grieve and repent for their abominable sins (Ezekiel 9), know that God's fiery judgment is at hand! From the dishonest judges who sit in this country's highest court to the lowest lawbreakers performing their despicable treachery under the cover of darkness, all will be destroyed on the day when the meek are invited to stand in the presence of THE KING!
