Mtn. View Public Library Director Sabrina Cornman
We had an interesting phone call recently that set me thinking about what we know, or think we know, or don’t have a clue about and don’t realize we don’t know, but should. The caller had purchased a miniature wagon with a serial plate that stated it was made in Mtn. View, Missouri and he was looking for information. I thought, ‘I got this, Nappy Frank’s tabletop wagons!’ The caller went on to say he was going to repair the wagon and pull it with his miniature horses. ‘Oh, I haven't got this, he didn’t build big wagons.’ I didn’t have a clue, but I should have known. Our annual Pioneer Day will be Saturday, Sept. 28 and I hope that people who do know something of our history will join us and share what they know.
We have some new programs kicking off in September; our Homeschool Book Report Class will meet every Monday at 10:00 a.m., the Adult Crafting Class meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. and our Children’s Storytime is every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
If you have a child in your life age birth to Kindergarten, we invite you to participate in our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. There will be fun prizes for adults and kiddos along the way. We continue to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday until November 28. Join our reading challenge and earn fun prizes from Smokey!
Do you like sweet ghost stories with a happy ending? Children age 8 and under may enter our raffle for a spooktacular handmade quilt and a copy of the book "The Little Ghost Who was a Quilt" by reading (or listening to) the book and entering their name into the drawing which will be held October 30. A cauldron full of thanks to our quilting sorceress, Monica Sharp, for the quilt.
If you are a homeschool family looking for new curriculum or have old curriculum you don’t use anymore, visit our homeschool curriculum exchange area. Don’t forget those Happy McReader's cards need to be redeemed at McDonalds by September 30.
Oh, and the story about the wagons? The Midget Circus Wagon Company was owned by Nappy (Napoleon) Frank whose company built small-scale wagons including the one that led Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Inaugural Parade on January 20, 1953. Hoping to see you at Pioneer Day.
