Every autumn of my childhood the adults in my family would sigh and declare, “Christmas will be here before you know it, then it’ll be a new year. The older you get the faster time goes!” My cousins and I would roll our eyes and respond that the school year never seemed to go very fast. As with many things, the old folks were right; time flies whether we’re having fun or not.
We host several fun things for all ages at Mtn. View Public Library:
- Friends of the Library .25¢ Book Sale happens the first Saturday of each month, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
- Bookworms book club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m.
- Adult Crafting Class meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.
- Ozark Fiber Arts Guild meets on the third Saturday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Mtn. View Garden Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of select months 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
- Homeschool Book Report Class meets every Monday at 10:00 a.m., they have just started reading "I Survived Hurricane Katrina" by Lauren Tarshis.
- Children’s Storytime for ages birth through second grade is every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
- Silent Auction items are displayed on the DVD shelves. The auction runs for three weeks on each group of items.
If you have a child in your life age birth to Kindergarten we invite you to participate in our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. There will be fun prizes for adults and kiddos along the way. We continue to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday until November 28. Join our reading challenge and earn fun prizes from Smokey!
If you would like to donate to the Southern Missouri Toy Drive, please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the donation box located near our large knitted American flag.
We are hosting a Christmas Tree Gala this holiday season. Themed trees will begin to show up around the library on November 13 and voting for your favorite tree will begin November 18. $1.00 equals one vote. Money raised from the gala will be used for our Summer Reading programs.
Mavis Tharp won the book, "The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt", and matching quilt handmade by our own Monica Sharp. Congratulations Mavis.

We will be closed for Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 28 thru Saturday, Nov. 30. May your Thanksgiving be filled with love, laughter, and leftovers.
