The 2025 Summer Reading Program, Color Our World, was a huge hit with the children.
We explored the arts from food and music to sculpting and painting ceilings like Michaelangelo.
The participants combined textile arts and the performing arts by making their own puppets and enjoying an impromptu puppetry lesson with Miss Lacy and her furry orange pal, Bubba.
The Willow Springs Library would like to thank the community friends who assisted us in making the program a success. Mia and Hilliary from the University of Missouri Nutrition Program treated us to some colorful and educational food games and healthy recipes, Becky Cash from the Willow Springs Arts Council got us feeling the emotions of music. Cornerstone Dance Studio hosted the participants for a foot-tapping demonstration and clogging lesson. And Simmons Bank sponsored the prizes for our winning readers. We appreciate all of you as well as our patrons and volunteers.
All together, the reading contest participants logged 31,110 minutes of reading in just 6 weeks!
That's 518.5 HOURS! Well done, Readers! We're very proud of you. Our most improved reader was Noah Good who doubled his reading time from last year. Good job, Noah! Our top reader overall was Landon Haftmann who clocked 122.5 hours of reading. Way to go, Landon!
The Happy McReaders Program will continue through September. Stop by for a punch card, then get the kiddos reading books to get punches for a free Happy Meal at our local McDonald's.
It's hard to believe that back-to-school time is nearly here, but it is. Willow Springs school teachers can get free library cards! Just bring your driver's license and school ID. Library patrons can check out Language Arts and STEM kits for the classroom and homeschool use.
Whether for education or just a great story to escape for a while, come see us at the Willow Springs Public Library or willowspringslibrary.org.
