Close Homecoming Game is a Loss

The Willow Springs Bears suffered a close defeat against the Cabool Bulldogs Friday night, with a score of 13-15. Willow came back to Palenske Field with a vengeance after a tough defeat last week and fought hard for a Homecoming victory.
The Bears are still learning the system, and mental mistakes stood between the Bears and victory this week.
''We played hard but [made] too many mental errors, all those mental mistakes...they'll come back and bite you,''  said Head Coach Joel Wyatt
The Bears made a valiant effort to overcome a 6-15 score in the fourth quarter. Two notable plays held glimmers of hope for a Willow win. The Bears were holding the ball on the Bulldogs’ 20-yard line, and a touchdown seemed imminent, but a flag on the play forced the home team out of field goal range. The second chance happened when there were only 0.7 seconds left on the clock, when a long pass play could have put the Bears on top, but it was incomplete, thrown out of range of the quarterback’s reach.
Willow takes on the Mountain Grove Panthers Friday. Mountain Grove is fresh from a 35-19 loss against the Ava Panthers. Both Willow and Mountain Grove are now 1-2 in the season and 0-1 in the SCA.
