Eagles headed to State!

It has been a phenomenal season for the Liberty Eagles boys basketball team. Liberty faced the Seymour Tigers in the Sectional contest on Tuesday, March 3, defeating them 66-60 and advancing to the State Quarterfinals.
 
After another come-back victory  of 64-52 against the Skyline Tigers, the 28-2 Eagles are flying to the final four with a twenty-one game winning streak.
 
During the quarterfinal game held on Saturday, March 7, Skyline came out hot in the first quarter, gaining a quick 17-4 lead over the Eagles. Liberty fans were all but worried, knowing this teams love for comeback victories and heart stopping excitement. In true "Tortoise and the Hare" fashion, the Eagles started a fire in the second quarter, still trailing behind the Tigers into half-time, 35-27. A huge three-point shot from Alex Tune gave Liberty their first lead in the game, with 7 minutes to spare in the fourth quarter. Skyline didn't let up, keeping the score tied for a few more possessions. Liberty was on a hot one, soon leaving Skyline behind and taking the victory with a final score of 64-52, punching their ticket to the Missouri Class 3 State Championship games in Columbia this week.
 
The Eagles from Shannon and Howell Counties will face the Goliath of Missouri high school basketball, the 25-3 Principia Panthers. Principia boasts not only a number one ranking in Missouri, but a number two ranking in the Nation according to MaxPreps.
 
In semifinals action at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo., the Eagles and Panthers will face off this Friday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, Miller Career Academy will face North Platte High School at 2:00 p.m. The winners from those games will go on to play for the Missouri State Championship on Saturday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. while the losers will play for the third place title at 12:00 p.m.
