The Willow Springs Elementary School cafeteria was brimful of Bear's fans Saturday for the second annual fundraising dinner and auction. This year's fare was pulled pork for the adults and hotdogs for kids. The football players resumed their role as the evening's waiters, doling out plates and drinks in their jerseys.
Following the meal, Will Jett conducted a live auction featuring items donated by local businesses and individuals. From baked goods to bullets, antler sheds to Bear wear, handmade quilts to gift certificates, buyers raised their placards and emptied their pockets.
Organizers report this year's event raised $18,176.50 to support Bears football. In an economy wracked by inflation, Willow Springs showed up and gave 77% of what they raised last year.
See the Bears in action for a Jamboree on August 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Mountain Grove. Mountain Grove, Houston, and Thayer will be participating.
