Girls Tennis in Howell County

Willow Springs Tennis beats West Plains
Willow Springs should be proud of their girls’ tennis team.

On September 30, the Lady Bears hosted the West Plains Lady Zizzers at Booster Field, and beat the bigger school, 6-3.

Willow Springs was the clear winner in singles matches by winning five of six varsity matches.

That means even though Willow Springs competes in a smaller class of schools for tennis and is one-third the size of West Plains in student enrollment, it has the better tennis team.

“I am just really proud of our team's effort this year.  We have worked throughout the last several years to build a solid tennis program and their hard work is paying off and showing up in matches such as Monday,” remarked Willow Springs Head Tennis Coach David Cox, who is in his tenth year of coaching tennis.

Willow Springs Girls Tennis has an 12-6 overall record for the year and is tied for first place team ranking in their district.

West Plains did win two of three varsity dual matches and has a 2-7 record on the year. First-year Zizzer Head Coach Heidi Schneider called this year a “learning and growing year” for the Zizzer girls’ team.
District play for both varsity teams begins October 11 in Springfield.
