Lady Eagles 3-0 in the SCA

The Liberty Lady Eagles are slowly making progress in the 2023 season as they stand at 3-0 in the SCA.
On Monday, Sept. 18, the Lady Eagles hosted the Summersville Lady Wildcats. The JV Lady Eagles took the Wildcats in two 25-9, 25-19. The Varsity Lady Eagles won in four 21-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.
“I am not happy about our first sets of the game playing,” commented Coach Tune. “It is very mental and I do see improvements, but we still need to focus more and get stronger in our heads. I am happy with how they are mid-game, then we get tense again in the end.”

Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Eagles travelled to Willow Springs to take on the Lady Bears.
“Willow is a huge team that I knew would give us fits on the front row,” began Coach Tune on the SCA win. “We struggled following our serve and pass plan, and if you cannot serve, winning is going to be tough. Luckily, they struggled serving too. It was a tough win at their place, but the girls have to show up every day and WANT to get better. Our SCA and our district will be a battle for us, and we have to learn to play our level, not our opponents.”
The C team fell 19-25 while the JV won in three 25-22, 22-25, 15-7. The Varsity Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bears in four 17-25, 28-26, 25-19, 25-21.
Unofficial stats for the game: Daniels had 20 kills and 17 digs; Tharp had 1 serve ace, 1 kill, and 7 digs; Tomey had 2 serve aces, 8 kills, 1 block, and 6 digs; McDaniel had 1 kill, 1 block, and 1 dig; Lind had 1 serve ace, 13 kills and 4 digs; Wallace had 1 serve ace, 9 kills, and 15 digs; Wagner had 9 digs; and Acklin had 1 serve ace and 14 digs.

“Last night was a good way to cap off the week heading into a tourney Saturday and another busy week ahead,” began Coach Tune. “I am proud of the teamwork and support I saw for every one that got on the floor. We are taking steps forward, some days bigger than others, but progress is progress.”
