Lady Eagles begin week of SCA play with two victories

The week kicked off with SCA play against the Willow Springs Lady Bears on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Eagle's Nest. The C team started the evening of games with a win over the Lady Bears. The JV lost in three sets 25-22, 20-25 and 15-11.
"Our JV is working hard, but battling people playing new positions, youth and finding the right, smooth rotation. We will get there," stated Head Coach Shari Tune.
In varsity action, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bears in three straight sets 25-17, 25-15 and 25-12. For the game, Junior Bre Daniels had 12 kills, and 3 blocks; Senior Lyla Cornman had 6 kills, and 11 assists; Junior Maci Tharp had 21 assists, and 6 digs; and Senior Kenzie Daniels had 2 aces, 5 kills, and 4 digs.
"It was a great game to kick off SCA," shared Coach Tune. "These girls are fun and everyday we are making progress."
Wrapping the week with another SCA matchup, the Lady Eagles hosted the Ava Bears on Thursday, Sept. 23. The JV won in two sets 25-4 and 25-10. Junior Kaylie Foster, Sophomore Aliyah Kramer and Freshman Jade Acklin all had 4 kills for the game. The team had a combined 15 aces. The JV now sits on a 6-2 record.
The varsity Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bears in three sets 25-15, 25-12 and 25-14. For the game, B. Daniels had 12 kills, and 5 digs; K. Daniels had 9 kills; Cornman had 7 digs, and 12 assists; and Tharp had 4 aces. The Lady Eagles now sit on a record of 2-0 for SCA and 12-1-1 for the season.
"We have got a great start to SCA," began Coach Tune on the game, "but it will just keep getting tougher. We need to learn to minimize errors when the score isn’t close, so that when it is a competitive game we won’t beat ourselves."
The Lady Eagles will host Marshfield on Monday, Sept. 26 before traveling to Cabool on Tuesday, Sept. 27 and Houston on Thursday, Sept. 29. They will round out their week with a tournament in Mount Vernon on Saturday, Oct. 1.
