Lady Eagles JV wraps season, Varsity heads into district play

The Lady Eagles Junior Varsity concluded their season on Tuesday, Oct. 18 with a win in Mtn. Grove against the Lady Panthers ending their season record at 15-4. Leading into that game, the Lady Eagles took second place in the Liberty JV Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The JV finished in pool play with wins over Willow Springs, Salem and South Iron, finishing first and then played the fourth place team in the other pool, Mtn. Grove winning 25-16, 25-10. The Lady Eagles fell to the West Plains Lady Zizzers in three sets, 25-12, 14-25, and 16-25 during the championship match..

"JV had great improvements over the season," reflected Head Coach Shari Tune. "We are excited to get in the weight room to develop them more! This is a great group of student athletes."

On Tuesday, Oct. 18 the JV Lady Eagles defeated Mtn. Grove in two sets 25-12 and 25-11. In Varsity action, the Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Panthers in four sets 15-25, 23-25, 25-16, and 15-25.

For the game, Senior Kenzie Daniels had 11 kills, and 15 blocks; Senior LYla Cornman had 4 aces, 5 kills, and 11 digs; Junior Bre Daniels had 1 ace, 12 kills, and 9 digs; Junior Maci Tharp had 3 digs; Junior Kinzie Tomey had 1 ace, and 3 kills; Sophomore Korie Lind had 2 aces, 2 kills, and 2 digs; Sophomore Bryleigh Wallace had 3 kills; and Sophomore Kaylie Wagner had 7 digs.

"The conference title game did not go as the girls had hoped," began Coach Tune. "Honestly, it was a good humbling experience for them, and hopefully at the perfect time. They didn’t show up to perform the fundamentals and it showed. It was a good learning experience for them."

For Class 2 District 9 play, Liberty defeated Cabool on Saturday, Oct. 22 to move on and Houston defeated Thayer. The championship game between Liberty and Houston will be played on Monday, Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m. in Cabool.
