Willow Fights Hard, Falls to Thayer

Willow Springs lost to the Thayer Bobcats Friday night with a score of 37-0.
Despite playing against a team that was quick on their feet and fast, two of Willow's players stood out for their skill on defense. Micah Stetina, no. 60, took down two Thayer runners before they could score, and in the last half, when the Bobcats were going for the extra point kick, Stetina knocked the ball out of the air. Ian Smith was also instrumental in blocking Bobcat players from scoring, twice taking down their runners who had evaded the other defenders.
When it came to offense, Willow couldn't keep the ball in their possession. Thayer was quick to sack Willow's carriers before they covered much ground.
Notable offensive plays included Jordan Gibson running the ball through Bobcat defenders twice by himself. Gibson was taken down just shy of a first down both times.
The Bobcats also struggled with turnovers. They threw passes that ended up incomplete or out of bounds, or when the Bobcats fumbled the ball directly after starting, Ryan Friga was quick to jump on it before they could recover.
Towards the end of the game, Gavin Ferguson alongside Nate McDaniel, made first downs on the 26, 18, and 14-yard line. When they were on the 14-yard line, Gavin made a beeline straight towards a touchdown but was pressed out of bounds mere feet from the end zone.
Toward the end of the game. Willow fumbled the ball where it was recovered by the Bobcats, only for it to be knocked out of Bobcat possession and right back into the Bear hands in a domino effect that had the crowd laughing.
Willow now stands 2-6 in their season and 1-5 in the SCA. They play the Ava Bears who are 8-0 in their season.                                                                                        Next week’s game is Senior Night, and will take place on THURSDAY on Palenske Field.
