Zizzer Boys Basketball stumble in home opener against Mountain Home, bounce back against Forsyth

The final score doesn’t always tell the story, like a win-loss record can’t tell the whole story of a season.

The Zizzer Boys’ Basketball team lost the December 10 home opener to the Mountain Home Bombers by a score of 61-75. But it was a much closer game than the final score would indicate.

In fact, with just 5:31 to go in the fourth quarter, the Zizzers trailed by only four points.

The Zizzers led after one quarter 15-14. Despite Mountain Home nailing eight 3-pointers in the first half, the Zizzers were down just three going into halftime, 28-31.

But the Zizzers had three team fouls in the first seventy seconds of the third quarter and that foul trouble, including a Zizzer technical foul, would be the story of the second half.

“Our guys played hard. That’s all I can ask of them. That outcome wasn’t what we wanted but we had three players foul out and our two best scorers got into foul trouble early.” said head Coach Mason Miller.
Jared Kraft, usually the leading scorer for the Zizzers, was held to 11 points.

Clayton Robbins carried the load with 28 points. Josiah Long scored 9, Jacob Moore had 8, and Ethan Tuma scored 5 points.

The loss to Mountain Home dropped the boys’ basketball team season record to 1-4. That’s a rough start to any season but most of those are narrow losses.

The Zizzers played again Friday, December 13 when they traveled to Forsyth and won, 69-58. West Plains played a much-improved basketball game and never trailed. On defense, they were able to contain Forsyth’s 7-footer, Tanner Baird, to 13 points.

On offense, the Zizzers had four players in double-digit scoring: Jared Kraft-27, Clayton Robbins-17, Landon Montgomery-11, and Josiah Long-10. Jacob Moore and Ethan Tuma each put in 2 to finish up the Zizzer scoring.

The Zizzers ended the week with a 2-4 record on the season. West Plains looks to avenge a close loss to Willard with a rematch game at home on Tuesday, December 17.
