The opening kickoff defined the whole game.
Zizzer senior Remington Wilson zipped 78 yards down the field on the opening kickoff only to have the whole play called back because of a holding penalty.
That pretty much describes the game against the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats.
In spite of eleven Zizzer penalties on the night, the Zizzers scored six rushing touchdowns and ran over the Wildcats to win 41-7.
“Sloppy. We just played sloppy,” said Zizzer Head Coach Joel Wyatt. “Even though we won by 34 points, we don’t feel great about it…too many penalties, too many dropped balls, too many mental errors. We are actually a better team than the score shows. We didn’t play to our ability.”
The Zizzers scored on their first two possessions to jump to an early 13-0 lead. With five minutes to go in the first quarter, the Wildcats answered with a huge 38-yard pass play on 4th & 10 that set up a little rushing touchdown. 13-7, Zizzers.
It looked like it might become a tight game when immediately after that touchdown, the Wildcats picked off a Zizzer pass and took over the ball at the Zizzer 29-yard line. But the Zizzer defense put a stop to that hope. The game was never close again.
The Zizzers scored two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to lead at halftime 27-7.
Highlights in the second half for the Zizzers included two more touchdowns by Wilson which upped his total to five for the night and earned him over 200 yards rushing for the game.
The Zizzers played staunch defense and junior Ethan Miller intercepted the Logan-Rogersville offense two times.
For the Zizzer faithful who stayed through the wind and the light drizzle, the last half of the fourth quarter gave a glimpse of the future as the junior varsity played the rest of the game.
At the halfway point in the regular season, the Zizzers advance to a 3-2 record. The Zizzers play the Bolivar Liberators (2-3) at home, next Friday, October 5, at 7 PM.
