Show-Me Select sale set for May 30 in Palmyra

Buyers from northeastern Missouri, Illinois and Iowa are expected to attend the May 30 Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer sale at F&T Livestock Market in Palmyra.
The sale begins at 6 p.m. with 110 crossbred and purebred heifers, says Daniel Mallory, University of Missouri Extension field specialist in livestock. The Palmyra sale is in its 24th year.
"The replacement heifers come from herds using the best management and genetics," says Mallory. "Missouri leads all other states in quality heifers."
Show-Me-Select protocols combine heifer management with breeding to top proven sires, he says. Calving ease, plus a short calving season, attracts buyers. "Repeat buyers know what they are getting and they are willing to bid for them."
All heifers are guaranteed pregnant at the sale and for 30 days. Estimated calving dates are given. Calving-ease genetics can bring early births. Spring sales have fall-calving heifers.
Heifers in the sales come from herd owners enrolled in MU Extension's yearlong Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program.
Only heifers wearing ear tags with the trademarked SMS logo are guaranteed.
"The sales are more than cattle auctions," says Mallory. "They're educational events for those thinking of improving their beef herds." Each sale has a free catalog with data on heifer genetics and management.
F&T Livestock Market has implemented a COVID-19 safety protocol. For details, visit www.FTLivestock.com.
