Chowning submits resignation, MVBT board hears

During a Feb. 19 meeting, the MVBT R-3 board approved the resignation of Ryan Chowning, Assistant Superintendent effective June 30, 2026. Chowning has taken the position of superintendent at Alton R-IV School District. The district also accepted the resignations of Caitlyn Cooper, Mtn. View Secretary effective February 11, 2026, and Kendra Desi Smith, SE Teacher effective June 30, 2026.
 
During the meeting the board approved employment contracts of John Daniels, LHS Principal; Tammy Heiney, LMS Principal/Curriculum Director; Jackie Hoagland, LHS Assistant Principal/Athletic Director; Angie Jester, Elementary Principal for the 2027-2028 school year. Justin Johnson, LMS Assistant Principal; Wade Marriott, MVE Assistant Principal; and Katie Shockley, BTE Assistant Principal.
 
In other board business:
- Minutes of the January 15 regular and February 4 special board meeting; payment of bills in the amount of $576,929.51; and monthly administrative/principal report was approved
- Payment of $802.27 for supply to Brown's Farm & Garden was approved with Mikael Orchard abstaining
- Payment of $1,066.00 for basketball official to Laynie Noble was approved with Gaylon Noble abstaining
- January 2026 financial report was presented with balance in all funds for January 2026 totaling $11,559,079.13
- Summer school dates of June 1 through June 26, 2026 was approved
- Senior Trip was approved
- Calendar for 2026-2027 school year was approved
- Revisions to he salary schedule for the school nurses for remainder of 2025-2026 school year to match the RN salary schedule was approved
- Letter of support for Byron Jacques as a candidate for the office of Vice President of the Missouri School Board Association was approved
 
Closed Session
- Issue of public comment student matter was tabled until the board can get other consultation was approved
- Darra French and Sarrah Tice were added to the certified substitute list pending paperwork
- Motion to employ Robert David, Middle School Teacher; Myrtle Pruitt, SE Teacher; Timothy J. Rolen, Elementary Teacher; and Macie Grunden, SE Para for the 2026-2027 school year was approved
