MVBT School District Announces Admin Staff

The Mountain View-Birch Tree School District is pleased to announce the new administrative staff for the 2021-2022 school year.  
 
Mrs. Lanna Tharp will be the Assistant Superintendent in charge of student services and instructional programs for the district.  Mrs. Tharp has degrees in Education Specialist (EdS) in Educational Leadership, Master of Science in Education, and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  She has held many positions in the educational setting, including paraprofessional, speech/language implementor, learning disabilities, and intellectually disabled/autism teacher, and special programs director for the district for the past 15 years.
 
When commenting on her new role for the district, Mrs. Tharp stated, “I spent my elementary, middle school, and high school years at Birch Tree Elementary, Liberty Junior High, Liberty and Winnetonka High School. My love for education began and grew stronger in those buildings. I have a wonderful husband and two wonderful sons, all Liberty High School graduates. I view my career in education as a calling and am blessed to have been chosen to serve in our school district as the Assistant Superintendent.”  
 
Mrs. Barbara Medina will be the new Special Programs Director. Mrs. Medina brings 24 years of experience in special education, including as a cross-curricular teacher and process coordinator. When commenting on her selection as the district’s Special Programs Director, Mrs. Medina exclaimed, “As the new Special Education Director, I see myself continuing the excellent program already in place at the MVBT school district for special education students.  I believe that each individual with a disability is entitled to the support necessary to maximize his/her potential given the resources of the District. In conjunction with classroom teachers and other educational personnel, I feel the Special Education staff have a commitment to ensure an effective learning climate, facilitate each student’s academic progress and social development, and support and act as a resource for classroom teachers working with students with special needs.” 
 
Mr. Wade Marriottwill continue his role as Athletic Director while moving to Mountain View Elementary as the Assistant Principal. Mr. Marriott has 12 years of experience in the public school system, with six being a P.E. teacher and the rest as Athletic Director in two districts.  When commenting on the new role in the district, Mr. Marriott stated, “I began my career in education in the elementary setting, and I am excited for the chance to work with these age groups again.”
 
Mrs. Tammy Heiney will be the District Curriculum Director and Liberty High School Assistant Principal.  Mrs. Heiney has 24 years of experience in the public school system and is certified in elementary and secondary administration. She has taught in the elementary and middle school settings and is eager to join the high school team. When commenting on her selection as the new assistant principal, Mrs. Heiney remarked, “I am a graduate of Liberty High School. My children are graduates, and I am excited to take on this new role.”
