The Willow Springs Bears Football Booster Club held their sixth annual fundraising dinner Saturday night. Hosted at scenic Pine Meadows Venue, the meal featured meat prepared by Willow Springs’ Larry Simon, mac ‘n cheese, and coleslaw. Per tradition, the football team served the meal.
The team is starting out with 45 players, announced Head Coach Jacob Berkshire. This year, the Bears’ motto is “Love your team.” Coach Berkshire announced the team will be offering the American Sign Language (ASL) gesture meaning “I love you” to the crowd at the beginning of every fourth quarter.
Dozens of donations featured in the silent and live auction with notable bids coming from Mayor Adam Webb, who paid $300 for a pecan pie made by Sharry Lovan. Wendell Bailey, unable to be present, phoned in a bid for a Palenske Field parking spot, paying $250 for a short walk to the stands for home games.
Booster Club organizers were not ready to announce final fundraising results by press time, but a full report, and more photos will appear in the August 26 edition.
