A well-known coffee house in downtown West Plains has moved but has not gone too far. 10/40 Coffee remains on the square in West Plains and is now by the Luster Arcade in the northeastern corner of the square. Shop owner Lynette Cooper spoke with Howell County News on what precipitated the move and on their new location.
She had not planned to move, but the owner of previous location asked them to move by the end of July, according to Cooper. “The landlord of the building we were at just needed that other space for their business. We were just asked to leave,” said Cooper.
“Everybody loves the space. We love the space. It's bigger, for one,” said Cooper on the new location. “It’s peaceful here.”
The coffee house was originally located at 24 Court Square and is now located at 14 Court Square in a building owned by Crockett Oaks and his wife Tonya. The coffee house has warm and inviting colors on the inside with contrasting light tan walls and dark oak furniture and picture frames. Many of the black-and-white photos hanging on the walls are of West Plains throughout the years, taken by Missouri Press Photojournalism Hall of Famer Dennis Crider.
Cooper is the current owner of the coffee house. The first owner was Micah Tombley and his wife, and it was sold after Micah passed away in 2018. The business changed hands multiple times since then. Cooper and her husband purchased the coffee house from Nathan and Judy Ogden in December 2023.
Lattes are very popular at 10/40 Coffee, says Cooper, as are their new grab-and-go salads and parfaits. Cooper said her favorite items are the Hot and Dirty Chai and the Chicken Salad Sandwiches.
10/40 Coffee is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
