Annual Tom Smith Rotary Golf Classic

Officials with the West Plains Rotary Clubs are continuing their mission of helping local students through the Rotary Backpack Program. The Rotary Backpack Program issues 112 backpacks every week that school is in session. This number continues to grow each year. Additionally, extra food is distributed during school breaks. The program focuses on need at the elementary level and serves six area schools. The cost for this program currently exceeds $250 per year per student. For this reason, the Sunrise Rotary Club and the Noon Rotary Club join forces each year to help meet this need.
The Sunrise Rotary club hosts the Annual Tom Smith Rotary Golf Classic to assist with fundraising efforts in support of the backpack program. Lou Citro, Chairman of the Rotary Golf Classic stated, "it takes a great amount of funding to assist our local students through the backpack program. The golf tournament is crucial in helping meet the needs of our students who rely on this program. We have been fortunate for several years to have the support of our local community and all who participate in the golf tournament. We would certainly like to invite everyone to participate this year, and help us make this the biggest year yet."
The Annual Tom Smith Rotary Golf Classic is coming up on May 28 at the North Terra Golf Course. For more information about the Rotary Backpack Program, or to sign up for the golf tournament, please contact Lou Citro at 417-293-9266.
