Backyard concert Sept. 7 at the Yellow House

Five musical groups will entertain at a benefit concert starting at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. The concert will be held in the backyard of the Yellow House, located at 209 W. Trish Knight in West Plains. 
 
The Colbert Brothers duo will kick off the event with traditional, old-time music.The Owlettes will sing original, energetic songs about kid-friendly topics such as dinosaurs and watermelons. The Carey Brothers and Friends will play classic rock. 
 
Performing in the pre-dusk prime time spot are renown vocalists Marideth Sisco and Linda Stoffel of the Blackberry Winter Band, who are teaming up with David Haenke. Closing the evening will be the rollicking, foot-tapping, Creek Stink, whose music often motivates dancing. 
 
This is the 28th annual concert to benefit the Ozarks Resource Center, West Plains, a not-for-profit that focuses on education about Ozark natural resources. The organization hosts projects including: KarstintheOzarks.org, which provides educational resources about Ozark caves, springs, and sinkholes; the annual Ozark Area Community Congress (OACC, or oak) gathering, now in its 45th year; Farm Unfixed, a science education internship program for area teenagers; and Mark Twain Forest Watchers, which makes recommendations concerning timber sales in the national forest. 
 
The suggested donation for the concert is $8.00. A silent auction will offer both unusual and practical items. Good food will be available by donation. 
 
A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Yellow House Community Arts Center. Please bring items for the auction. In case of rain, the event will move inside the Yellow House. For more information contact hank.dorst@gmail.com.
