Calling All Patriots!

Plans are underway for what organizers are calling “the biggest and best 4th of July parade ever to be held in Willow Springs”, on Saturday, July 4th at 10am.  Line up is at Booster Field from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There is no entry fee and there are no prizes for the entries.
It is a patriotic parade. Organizers hope to see red, white and blue in all shapes and sizes.  All churches are encouraged to display their vans or buses as well as floats and sports teams.
In keeping with tradition, there will be historic characters in the parade. There are about fifteen characters committed so far this year. New additions are Mark Twain (Shannon Casebeer), George Washington (Tim Perkins), Martha Washington (Sue Walters), Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Andrea McNew), Carrie Chapman Catt (Theresa Turner), and Lucy Stone (Tracy Cottengim).
The 19th Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing women the right to vote was ratified August 26, 1920, so Willow Springs plans to honor six of the suffragettes who crusaded for altogether seventy-two years.  We have openings for at least two more suffragists.
More historic characters are needed. Costumes are provided by calling Jane Bailey at 469-2588.  There will be a patriotic program following the parade at the historic Star Theatre.  Admission is free and will last from 11:00 a.m.to 12:00 p.m.
