Lincoln School Project welcomes former NBA player Chris Carr for Community Talk on perseverance and leadership

The Lincoln School Project will host Chris Carr, former National Basketball Association (NBA) player and current Associate Director of Admissions, Athletic Recruitment and Diversity, Access & Outreach at Drury University, for an engaging community discussion on perseverance and leadership. The event will take place on Saturday, April 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Lincoln School Project venue.

 

Chris Carr's basketball journey is a testament to dedication and resilience. Born in Ironton, Missouri, Carr attended Arcadia Valley High School before playing collegiate basketball for the Southern Illinois Salukis from 1992 to 1995. His outstanding performance led to his selection by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 1995 NBA Draft. Over six NBA seasons, Carr played for teams including the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, and Boston Celtics. Notably, he was the runner-up to Kobe Bryant in the 1997 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

 

Following his NBA career, Carr played professionally in Europe before transitioning to coaching. He founded the 43 Hoops Basketball Academy in Hopkins, Minnesota, focusing on youth development. Carr served as the head coach for Eden Prairie High School's girls varsity team and held assistant coaching positions at Kansas State University. In 2021, he joined Drury University as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team.

 

In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Carr was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
