The American Legion Hall in Willow Springs was the scene of a Christmas surprise for 44 local children. On Saturday morning, Eleven Point Rural Fire Department hosted their annual gift giveaway handing out over 400 gifts.
Each year, the fire department chooses Willow Springs children who need a little boost towards Christmas magic. This year’s festivities began with a special trip to Christos House Friday night where the Grinch and Santa teamed up to take presents to the children spending their holiday in the shelter.
On Saturday morning, children came to the American Legion hall for a pancake breakfast and visit with Santa. The hundreds of presents were a surprise. Laughter was light, smiles were ready, and just a few eyes were misty as the wrapping paper flew.
Deputies from Howell County Sheriff’s Office and veterans from the Smith-Holloway American Legion post were on hand to help members of Eleven Point hand out the gifts.
Eleven Point collects new toys throughout the year, and this year were able to provide many of the gifts thanks to a monetary donation from the Opera House Grill. To donate, or to request help for Christmas next year, contact Eleven Point Rural Fire.
