FOOT CHASE LEADS TO SEARCH WARRANT, ARREST

On December 1, West Plains Police Department officers responded to a residence on Jackson Street for a report of court order violation. Justin Stiner, 31, of West Plains, violated a restraining order, and entered a residence. The female resident shares children with Stiner. He assaulted her, punched a hole in the wall, and verbally threatened her life.

Upon officer arrival, officers spotted Stiner as he fled on foot. Officers gave chase but were unable to locate the male subject. During the foot chase, an officer was injured and was transported to Ozarks Healthcare for treatment.

After interviewing the victim, officers learned the subject had multiple warrants for similar behavior.

On December 2, officers learned of a possible location for Stiner. The West Plains Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) was activated and arrived at the residence on County Road 4700, assisted by the Howell County Sheriff’s Office. Stiner refused to comply with commands to exit the residence. A search warrant was obtained, and the SRT Team made entry to the residence, located Stiner, and took him into custody without further incident.

Stiner was transported to the Howell County Jail and placed on a 24-hour Hold. Formal charges were filed by the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for one count each of first degree Burglary, second degree assault, stealing, resisting arrest, first degree property damage, and third degree domestic assault. Total bond was set at $100,000.00 dollars. Stiner is also facing twelve similar criminal matters from 2019 as well as eight separate related cases from 2020.

In a press release, The West Plains Police Department thanked the Howell County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the apprehension of Stiner. The name of the officer who was injured is not being released but he is recovering well.
