Man arrested on outstanding warrants

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, West Plains Police Department officers were investigating a burglary in the 2100 block of Hubert Redburn Drive in West Plains. Officers later observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Lynn Drive and attempted contact with the suspect. The suspect, identified as Brandon Stokes, fled from officers on foot. It was found that Stokes also had active felony warrants out of Howell County for Domestic Assault-2nd Degree and Kidnapping.
 
On Thursday, Feb. 29, at approximately 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Walnut Street in West Plains to effect the arrest of Brandon Stokes on the outstanding felony warrants. Officers made contact with Stokes who then led officers on a short foot chase. Stokes continued to resist arrest and was eventually taken into custody. One officer sustained injuries during the struggle with Stokes.
 
Charges of Assault-2nd Degree Special Victim, Resisting Arrest for a Felony, and Unlawful Possession of an Illegal Weapon will be forwarded to the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
