Riggs appointed County Surveyor

Ray Riggs, of West Plains, will be appointed as Howell County Surveyor, announced Governor Mike Parson's office last week.
Sitting County Surveyor Ralph Riggs was elected to the office of Howell County Presiding Commissioner in the Nov. 8 General Election. He submitted his letter of resignation to the Governor's office on Nov. 9, confirms Howell County Clerk Kelly Waggoner.
The Governor's office fills vacancies in county offices and board, and opened their application portal the day they received Riggs' resignation. Ray Riggs was the only applicant for the County Surveyor seat, confirms the Governor's office.
Ray Riggs currently serves as owner of Riggs Brothers Surveying, LLC. The Governor's office reports he is licensed as a professional land surveyor in Missouri, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Nebraska and has been a licensed surveyor since 2003. In addition, Riggs is also active in the University of Missouri Extension Council and Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors.
Ray Riggs' appointment will be effective Jan. 3, 2023.
County Surveyor is not a salaried position, Waggoner told Howell County News.
"Howell County provides insurance, and the statutes outline payment to him/her at the time service is performed for the County," she said.
