West Plains doctor charged with leaving the scene of an accident
A doctor practicing in West Plains faces one misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident after an Oct. 9 crash on Hoglen Dr.
According to court documents, a reporting party called the police regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a building at approximately 1:45 p.m. The vehicle was reportedly attempting to leave the scene, but was later stopped by Officer Ivie Powell.
Dr. Clara Applegate’s vehicle was left in drive at West Plains Dental Group in the 1700 block of Hull Street. The vehicle rolled out of the parking lot, across US Highway 63, down the embankment, and entered the yard of a residence on Hoglen drive. At the house, it hit a chain link fence and gate and damaged an air conditioning unit.
Dr. Applegate chased after the vehicle as it rolled away, caught up to it at the residence, then entered the car and drove away, says the probable cause statement signed by Officer Conner Burnes.
Pieces of the Toyota Tacoma registered to Dr. Applegate were left behind at the scene.
The Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges in this matter on Oct. 24, and a summons was issued on October 25. This matter is scheduled before the Honorable R. David Ray on November 20.
