Hello Howell County!

The rains are welcome after a long dry spell. The road crews are able to maintain the gravel roads with some moisture in preparation for the upcoming winter. Work is continuing on repairing and replacing some deficient low water crossings. The preliminary work on replacing the bridge on County Road 2570 at the end of Allen Steet is progressing with the bridge to be completed late in 2023.

There has been some discussion why the Howell County Commission closed the garage and lower parking lot two years ago. There are several reasons for doing this. Firstly, the merchants around the square were complaining about county employees using the parking spaces on the square and that people were using it as a living area, bathroom, getting better acquainted and graffiti on the walls. Also, this gave the 911 employees a safe place to park during the late shifts and also this took place during the COVID Pandemic. Although we cannot require all county employees to take advantage of this convenience, it is up to the individual officeholders who employ individuals to not park on the square!

The Commission continues to hear and approve grant requests from the various Howell County offices, mainly Juvenile and the Sheriff’s Office. The Howell County Commission is still discussing the Scenic Byway Proposal. We also approved an upgrade in the camera security system for the Howell County Court House, Howell County Office Building and Sheriff’s Office.

The Collector’s Office is busy preparing the 2022 Tax Statements for mailing. The County Clerk’s Office is preparing for the 2022 Midterm General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Absentee voting is continuing through Tuesday, November 7, 2022. The office will be open on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for absentee voting as well for those voters who are unable to come during the weekday.

The sales tax revenue continues to come in strong and is 8% above last year.

Tis' the flu season, consider getting vaccinated.

The Howell County Offices will be closed for Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 and will reopen on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022 at 8:30 a.m.

The 2020 Howell County plat books are still available for $35 and maps are available for $40 at the Howell County Clerk’s Office.
