City of Mountain View Announces Plans for CARES Act Funding

The City of Mountain View was awarded $23,663.23 in the second phase of CARES Act funding. According to Finance Officer Linda Higgins, virtually every department in the city will receive a portion of the funds to help combat the costs of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
The single largest expense is the cost of constructing a protective wall in City Hall at a projected cost of $14,814. Before the wall, there was nothing to prevent the public from entering the workspace of the employees at City Hall, Higgins said. Now with plexiglass barriers as well as a traditional wall, the workers are better protected from exposure.
Another significant expense in the application for funds will be used to provide a plexiglass protective cage in a patrol car for the police department which is intended to separate officers from any bodily fluids or airborne germs from subjects who are transported in the police vehicle.
Many other city departments will receive funding for cleaning supplies and PPE.
“Almost all the departments received at least something,” Higgins said.
The City Pool will receive the sum of $1,067; the electric department will receive $1,900; wastewater is slated to receive $500, and the golf course and parks department will receive under $100.
$15,700 of the total award is scheduled to the administration, $14,818 of which is earmarked to build the wall, as mentioned above. Police Chief Jaime Perkins is performing the work to install the wall and it is still in progress, Higgins said.
