February 3

Officer Jim Hedlesten responded to Booster Field for a possible burglary. City parks department employees found a lock cut off a small building. 

February 4

Officer Wade Bloomer received a call about a juvenile who attended the school dance and did not return home. He assisted in locating the juvenile and found her safe.

Officer Cary Gates responded to Park Street for a wellbeing check. He spoke to the person, they were fine.

February 5

Officers responded to East Valley Street after a caller reported a residence porch light repeatedly turning on and off. They found nothing suspicious and the homeowner turned the light off.

Officer Joe Barnhouse received a call about the stop sign at Turner Drive leaning and no longer visible from the roadway. He relayed the information to the street department.

Officer Jada Gunter responded to Willow Springs Apartments for a report of domestic assault. Investigation found two family members had a verbal altercation but denied any physical response. Neither party would press charges.

Officer Gunter received an after the fact report of a non-injury vehicle accident limited to property damage. 

February 6

Officer Gunter received a call of a bulldozer stuck in a ditch. Upon investigating, she discovered the electric company clearing power lines.

Officer David Hocking investigated an unoccupied and unknown vehicle parked at First General Baptist Church. 

Officer Barnhouse received a call that an individual went into the Willow Tree Cafe to have breakfast and found the lights off and no employees. The officer contacted the owner who secured the building.

February 7

Officer Hocking responded to West Ninth for a possible domestic situation. Investigation found an individual upset and yelling at others in the household. He separated the irate person and explained the 12-hour rule. A juvenile in the household expressed fear of the individual. Officer Hocking forwarded a report to family services for additional assistance for the family.

Assistant Chief Alan Lewis met with an individual reporting unauthorized financial transfers from his banking account. 

Chief Wes Ellison and Assistant Chief Lewis responded to West Ninth for a verbal altercation. The de-escalated the situation and assisted the couple.

Assistant Chief Lewis assisted a citizen locked out of their residence on Walnut Street.

Assistant Chief Lewis and Officer Gunter responded to West Ninth to assist in a civil standby while a subject removed personal items from a residence. While there, Howell County Sheriff Deputy John Thomas served an order of protection to the individual.

February 8

Officer Hocking responded to Love’s Travel Center for a non-injury accident.

Officer Gunter responded to North Center Street to assist EMS with a medical call.

Officer Hocking took a report of missing puppies from Corn Avenue.

Officers Gunter received a report of two dogs possibly carrying cats in their mouths. She was unable to locate any animals. 

Officer Hedlesten received a call on Eleventh Street involving two dogs that had killed a cat. Animal Control responded and captured one of the two dogs. 

February 9

Officers Jake Cronin and Bloomer responded with EMS for a medical call at Willow Villa Apartments.
