May 22

Deputy Jared Hummel took a report of a stolen EBT card.

Corporal Nicholas Bruno took a report of a stolen vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing. 

May 23

Deputy Dakota Millard responded to County Road 3810, West Plains, for a report of a death investigation. Investigating the scene Deputy Millard believed the subject passed due to natural causes, as there were no signs of foul play or a struggle. 

Deputy Jacob Hamby took a report of sexual misconduct that took place on Private Road 8272, West Plains. He contacted all parties involved.

May 24

Deputy James Wardrip received a call for a stolen vehicle from US Highway 160 in West Plains. This incident is pending investigation.

Cpl. Logan Wake received an item brought to the Howell County Sheriff's Office, which Region G Search and Rescue cadaver dogs reportedly alerted to. This item is under investigation and will be presented to proper authorities on the matter for proper identification. At the initial time of observation, the item is not blatantly obvious to be associated with human remains. It is currently unknown why cadaver dogs would alert to this item. 

May 25

Deputy Hamby took a report of stealing.

Deputy D. Millard responded to U.S. Highway 160 for a report of a stolen U-HAUL truck. This case is under investigation.

Deputy Devon Mendenhall received a call of a gas drive-off in Pomona. The investigation is ongoing. 

May 26

Deputy D. Millard responded to County Road 5600, Willow Springs, for a report of a death investigation. The death is believed to be due to natural causes as there were no signs of foul play or a struggle. 

Deputy Mendenhall received a report of a child found walking in or near the roadway unharmed. Prior to his arrival, the legal guardian responded to the scene. After an investigation, he returned the child to the legal guardians.

May 27

Cpl. Brian Jackson took a report of a possible theft from a bank account. 

Cpl. Nicholas Bruno took a report of a stolen passport.

Deputy John Thomas on routine patrol on US Highway 63 in West Plains conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop Deputy Pauly via K-9 Mark gave a positive alert. Deputies found suspected methamphetamine during a probable cause search of the vehicle. The suspected methamphetamine will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for further testing. 

May 28

Deputy Dylan Webb responded to a residence on US Highway 160 for a report of a protection order violation. He advised the suspect to leave the property. Charges will be sent to the prosecutor for review. 

Deputy Webb responded to State Route N, Pomona, for an agency assist with Willow Springs Ambulance and Pomona Fire Protection District with an unresponsive male. They determined the individual to be deceased. Deputy Coroner Michael Pauly responded to the scene. No foul play is suspected. 

Deputy Adriel Lisboa received a report of an animal bite that occurred in West Plains. The victim stated they were attacked by a neighbor’s dog that had knocked them over and bit them on the face.

May 29

Deputy Lisboa took a report of a child custody dispute. 

Deputy Webb responded to a residence on State Route 101, Caulfield, for a property damage report. The reporting party stated someone had damaged his mailbox for the second time the past month. 

Cpl. Bruno, at State Route 101 and US Highway 160 attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to yield. He initiated a pursuit when the vehicle evaded using several county roads. Deputies deployed spike strips, and three of the four tires of the vehicle were disabled. They placed the suspect into custody and transported to the Howell County Jail on a 24-hour hold pending formal criminal charges. 

Deputy Hummel responded to a suspicious vehicle at the Smith Chapel Church near U.S. 160. The caller stated a vehicle left the parking area and came back multiple times. Deputies took one subject into custody and placed them on a twenty-four hold for possession of a controlled substance.

May 30

Cpl. Logan Wake received a non-caretaker referral from Missouri Department of Social Services. The incident appears to have happened in Oregon County. The incident is closed and is not under investigation. 

Deputy Webb received a report of non-consensual dissemination of sexually explicit images. The reporting party stated friends contacted them regarding received messages via Facebook containing nude photos. The reporting party stated the photos disseminated were only possessed by an ex-boyfriend. A report was taken, and an investigation is ongoing.
