In 2009, work began by the South Central Ozark Community Improvement Corporation (SCOCIC) staff to obtain a grant to be used to establish and maintain a revolving loan program to provide low-interest loans for private water wells to homeowners in the seven-county (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas, and Wright) region.
Since that time, the Board of the South Central Ozark Community Improvement Corporation has overseen along with SCOCOG staff, the funding of over 75 loans totaling approximately $730,000.
The program continues to use revolving funds to finance well loans, and has most recently raised the maximum loan amount to $30,000 in order to offset the rising costs of well installations.
