Blame for Republican representatives

Letter to the Editor,

 

Republicans have been in control of the legislature and purse strings for over 20 years and Missouri continues to decline under their management.

 

Representatives Lisa Durnell and Bennie Cook are promoting a double standard which is helping their wealthy constituents while hurting everyone else. Our tax dollars give Lisa and Bennie free money for food and gas while "working," and the rest of us pay higher prices for food and gas.

 

Both support squandering our tax dollars with the redistricting fiasco, and they overturned several important issues the voters passed. Lisa and Bennie are promoting their religious beliefs by underfunding our public schools and funding religious schools as well as banning comprehensive health care for women. Both Republican representatives voted to eliminate the Capital Gains tax, helping the wealthy while reducing funding for public programs like road repairs.

 

Jason Smith voted for the BBB. January 1, 2027, millions of people will lose their Medicaid and certain Medicare benefits, and the BBB tightens the food restrictions for so many SNAP recipients while Jason's benefits, paid for by our tax dollars, will not be affected at all.  Jason voted to fund the illegal Iran war, and he supports taking money from public programs to support ICE vigilantes and the inhumane concentration camps set up for migrants. Worst of all Jason Smith pledged allegiance to Trump rather than to the Constitution of the United States.

 

Thanks to some concerned and dedicated candidates running against Lisa, Bennie and Jason, this election cycle, we have options - let's stop the "More for me and less for thee" actions of the Republicans in office by voting in new people with fresh minds, honesty, integrity and a desire to follow the Constitution of Missouri and the United States.
