ELVA LOUISE SMITH

Elva Louise (Wood) Smith, a resident of Willow Springs, passed away early Friday morning while at Willow Care Nursing Home. She was born May 14, 1930 to Earl and Opal (Burtchett) Wood in Douglas County and was 90 years old.
 
Elva was united in marriage to Harley Smith on April 27, 1948 in Willow Springs and to this union six children were born. Elva was employed at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Willow Springs for 35 years as a binder. She was a hard worker; however, when she was not working, she loved to go fishing with her husband, Harley. She was an excellent cook, and she made the best chicken and dumplings in Douglas County! Elva also loved to make quilts and made several for all her children and for many others as well. She loved to attend church and was a member of Crossway Fellowship Church in Willow Springs. She will be dearly missed by her family, her friends, and all who knew her.
 
Elva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley; her son, Bobby Smith; her daughter, Sharon Owens; her grandson, Jonah Smith; three brothers: Johnny, Harold, and Leon Wood; three sisters: Dorothy Leininger, Virginia Freuhan, and infant sister, Roxie Wood.
 
She is survived by her son, Larry Smith; daughter, Barbara Adams and her husband, Clay Adams; son, Ivan Smith and his wife, Janel, all of Willow Springs; son, Gary Smith and his wife, Debbie of Cabool; and a brother, Clyde Wood of Springfield, MO. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
 
A graveside service for Elva will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Grove Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Walton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home, LLC.  Online condolences may be left at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
