James Douglas “Doug” Helton, 68, of Willow Springs, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021.
He was born January 7, 1953, to James Alfred and Lucille Sylvia (Branson) Helton in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Doug leaves behind his wife of 32 years Sally; sons, Scott Spiehs of Barron, WI and James Spiehs of Willow Springs, MO; daughters, Amber Peterson of Willow Springs, MO and Katie Helton Wilson and husband Richard of West Plains, MO; twelve grandchildren, Alethea, Danielle, Brooke, Austin, and Johnny Spiehs, Makenzie Smart, Emily Erickson, Raelee, Levi, and Olivia Peterson, and Sofia and Hazel Wilson; a special brother, Mikel Hilton of Willow Springs, MO; a special sister, JoAnn Jones of West Plains, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Missouri and Wisconsin.
His parents; one brother, Carl Ihler; and several uncles and aunts precede him in death.
Doug was “a jack of all trades,” which allowed him to master many types of jobs. He worked in electrical, plumbing, construction, farming, supervising, and building yachts. He worked in Houston, Texas during the oil boom and was also a maintenance supervisor for a 160-unit apartment complex in Madison, Wisconsin. He worked at the Carver Yacht Company in Green Bay, Wisconsin, cutting out boat hulls for several prominent people including, Walter Cronkite and Brett Favre, and was very honored to have worked at those jobs.
Doug’s favorite past times were hunting, fishing, sharpening knives, studying the Bible, tinkering with many unfinished projects, and spending time with the kids. Doug was a very honest and intelligent man; he was often the go-to person for advice and direction. Dad will be missed immensely.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri with Bro. James Brown officiating. Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. prior to the service also at the chapel. Interment will be in Bethany Memorial Cemetery, Crocker, Missouri.
