James LeRoy Nichols, Jr.

James LeRoy Nichols, Jr., a resident of Willow Springs, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, while at his home. He was born June 4, 1959, in Lebanon, IN to James L. Nichols, Sr. and Mary S. (Heiston) Sutherland and was 63 years old.
James grew up in Southgate, MI and attended the schools there. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on January 14, 1977. After basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA, he was stationed at Jacksonville, FL. for two years. He married Loretta Ann Lamb on June 17, 1977, in Lincoln Park, MI. James was employed at Whitehead & Kale as a welder for 5 years, before working at the Cook Nuclear Plant checking machines for safety. He then became a truck driver for Air Gas and delivered a variety of gas cylinders, including oxygen, helium, propane, nitrogen, etc. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing; however, fishing was his favorite pastime. He also loved to make quilts and made several for his family which they will always treasure. He will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Edward Sutherland; and two brothers, Ronald and Darren.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his daughter, Mary Tibbitts and her husband, Ken; daughter, Dawn Neumann; sons: Brian Nichols, Edward Nichols, and Jeffrey Nichols. He is further survived by nine grandchildren: Ariel, Andrew, Charles, Ryan, Christopher, Chloe, Kyle, Emma, and Daniel. The family will welcome a great-granddaughter, Nadia, who is due to make her appearance in December.
