John David Shoemaker was born September 21, 1989, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, to Jon and Cheryl (Frye) Shoemaker of Mountain View, Missouri. He left this world suddenly on May 28, 2021, at his home in Mountain View, Missouri at the age of 31 years.
He graduated from Mountain View-Birch Tree Liberty High School in 2008. He then went to college at MSU in West Plains, Missouri studying game design. There he really enjoyed working in the library and helping people.
John was lonely and just wanted to be accepted and liked, and tried too hard at times. Even though he got hurt a lot, John wore his heart on his sleeve and would help a person if he could.
John really loved his son and talked about him a lot. He wanted to be a good dad, spend time with him, and was really sad and heartbroken that he couldn’t. He also talked about how he wished he’d been a better brother to Jason, whom he missed a lot.
He had changed over the years for the better regardless of what people thought. He wasn’t really given a second chance or any chance. John had a great smile and could make most laugh by the out-of-the-blue random things he’d say.
John enjoyed watching horror and superhero movies, playing video games, especially Raid and Shadow Legends, and fantasy role-playing games such as Magic: The Gathering (when he could and had someone to play it with).
He liked to listen to rock music and was also a Juggalo (hardcore dedicated follower of Insane Clown Posse or ICP) and was thrilled beyond belief in 2018 when he was able to attend an ICP concert and was waiting anxiously on a gift ICP had just sent him. But he also listened to classical music and a little country (like Alan Jackson).
John leaves behind his son, Joseph Young of Winona, MO; his parents, Jon and Cheryl Shoemaker of Mountain View, MO; his brother, Jason Shoemaker of Kirkland, WA; his paternal grandma, Sandy Shoemaker; aunts and uncles, Billy Frye of Summersville, MO, Barbie West of Flippin, AR, Rhonda (Jim) Foote of Flint, MI, Marie (Virgil-Buzz) Davis, James (Kathy) Shoemaker of Harrisonville, MO, Laura Askew of Springfield, MO, Jay (Diane) Shoemaker of Belleville, IL, Jaclyn (Heath) Davis of Mountain View, MO; and a host of cousins and other family members who did care about him, and who will miss him terribly and will mourn him suddenly leaving this world.
Those family members that have gone ahead are his paternal grandpa, John “Jack” Shoemaker (who passed last year on John’s birthday, it really upset and bothered him); his maternal grandparents, Beverly West (whom he helped a lot during her last days at home); Archie Frye (whom he was just getting to know before his passing); both sets of paternal and maternal great-grandparents; his uncle, Jeffrey Shoemaker (whom he remembered even though he was young and still talked about) who passed away at 17, after a swimming accident in 1992; and two special second cousins, Rhonda and Ramona Buck.
Cremation arrangements were made under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
