LARRY MAX SMOTHERMAN

Larry Max Smotherman, 80, of Mountain View, Missouri departed this life on August 2, 2021, at Mercy St. Francis Hospital Mountain View, Missouri. He was born December 7, 1940, the son of Leonard Joseph and Lillian H. (Blackwell) Smotherman.
Larry graduated from Mountain View High school in 1958 and joined the Navy on March 12, 1959. He served four years in the service aboard the USS Currituck and was honorably discharged on April 19, 1963.  Larry was then, united in marriage on February 22, 1964, to Ruth Ann Pounders, and to this union, four children were born. He worked for thirty-nine years at Angelica Uniform Company as a Regional Supervisor of the cutting department. He started working there in 1963 and retired in 2002.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lillian Smotherman; one brother, Austin Smotherman; two sisters, Erma Drake and Laverna Baker; and one special grandson, Dylan Sansouci.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann Smotherman; four children, Penny Sansouci and Tony, David Smotherman and wife, Jennifer, Dale Smotherman and wife, Kimberly, and Joseph Smotherman and Dawnalehia; nine grandchildren, Becky Wood and husband, Bill, Clinton Sansouci, Morgan Stassen and husband, John, Austin Smotherman and wife, Hannah, Maverick Goforth and Julie, Josie French and husband, Brandon, Christopher Smotherman, Chayton Reese and wife, Ashley, and Cole Reese; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe Kelts, Kinsley and Waylon Wood, Della Stassen, Maisyn Smotherman, Mira Goforth, Jacobi French, Samaree Norris and Brenley Reese; two sisters, Donna Parmely and Dixie Smotherman; special family, Mike and Travis Pearson and the late Mack and Francis Pearson; and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, and longtime friends.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, fishing, hunting, and especially his grandchildren. Larry was known all around Mountain View as “Papa Larry,” because of all the children Ruth Ann babysat throughout the years. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW and AMVETS. He enjoyed playing cards and singing around the piano with his sisters.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri with Steve Hockman officiating.  Visitation was held prior to the service from 1:30-3:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
